Specialty South Slope Communications North Liberty, Iowa

Following tornadoes in 2006, South Slope Cooperative Communications was determined to protect their central office and the telecommunications equipment facilities of the co-op. In this project, the existing equipment building was encapsulated and expanded. The new facility contains 21,000 square feet and is designated to withstand 300 mph winds - a category F5 tornado.

The exterior walls are 14-inch thick, pre-cast panels. The roof structure is 34-inch deep pre-cast concrete double tees. Generators will provide emergency power for the entire facility.

Morning Star Studio provided Architecture and Structural Engineering services for this project, which was completed in November 2008.
